Introduce Yourself
by HarryChiling, 02-01-2025, 06:41 PM
My name is Harry Chilinguerian I own a small studio called Optscureal Limited, I specialize in "helping opticians realize the value of obscure optical knowledge".  My goal 20 years ago was to teach frame making to opticians through MakeOptics, at the time the industry was not ready and most opticians pushed back.  I now look around and see a vibrant community of professionals that have taken up the craft of making frames.  I'm glad to be here and happy to share.

GASM #1: Introduction, Call to Leadership (Buying Group Manager)
by Chad Sobodash, 01-31-2025, 07:47 PM
Introduction

Hello everyone,

I am happy to welcome everyone to the Guild of American Spectacle Makers (GASM). Most of you are visiting from the SMALLBATCHTOOLS WhatsApp group, so before I say anything I want to say thanks to them for being such a fantastic resource for the frame making community. Each one of us owe gratitude to them for hosting and encouraging independent lunetiers from all over the world.

In discussions with many independent makers, the need has become apparent to build a group that can facilitate the needs of American frame makers, specifically. This includes North, Central, and South America, as these areas are globally underserved in the needs of materials, components, and knowledge. There is a large array of reasons for this, and many unique to their respective countries.

This forum is loosely moderated (as many of you know me as a crass, loud-mouthed cretin), so please post freely. I am a free speech absolutist. The landing page will be developed soon with a couple pieces of merch at low pricing solely to support server costs.

Call to Leadership (Buying Group Manager)

With this community, I hope that we can leverage costs as a buying group, and reduce our shipping and production costs. I have no personal interest in being someone who manages finances, so I am calling for someone to take leadership in managing the money from the members for performing purchasing. Anyone who is interested may want to make a post indicating such, or send me a private message. If nobody is interested, then I will assume this role as needed, but it is not my desire to do so.

Welcome everyone, and thanks for participating.
