Rim Locks

The rim lock, also called a closing block or screw block, lets the eyewire open for lens insertion and close securely for retention. Acetate frames take a lens by heating and springing the eyewire; a metal frame cannot, so it needs a mechanical closure at one point in the rim circuit. The standard rim lock is two interlocking elements at the temporal end of the eyewire.
