Accurate measurement requires appropriate tools, though technique matters more than any particular instrument. Regardless of the tool, consistent technique and an understanding of each measurement's purpose will let a fitter use any instrument with confidence. A gauge used inconsistently produces worse results than a ruler used carefully.
