Precious Metals for Eyewear

Gold, silver, platinum, and palladium appear in eyewear as solid structural components, decorative elements, or surface finishes. Cost limits their use in production frames, but bespoke work often incorporates them where their properties serve the design. Pure gold at 24 karat is too soft for structural use, with yield strength under 30 MPa.
